Schagen Castle is a former lowland castle of the Diocese of Osnabrück. It lies west of the farming community of Pente in the town of Bramsche in the north of the district of Osnabrück in Lower Saxony.
Schagen Castle in Pente is legendarily associated with Duke Wittekind and is therefore also popularly called Wittekindsburg. However, it was probably not built until the 12th century, possibly to secure a ford over the Hase flowing past to the west. It was first mentioned in 1186 as the residence of Giselbert von Schagen. The Knights of Schagen are mentioned from 1260 as Burgmannen of the Diocese of Münster at Vechta Castle. In 1294, Schagen Castle is described as a "strong fortification". In 1424, the Osnabrück cathedral chapter applied for the forced sale of the over-indebted property, and in 1426 the new owner was the canon Claus von Voß. He sold it in 1442 to Wibbeke von Elmendorf, who ceded it to the cathedral chapter in 1443 in exchange for a pension. The castle left this to the serfdom Borgmann. After that, the castle fell into disrepair.
